Getting sick and injured people back to work faster

The Department of Labor needed to modernize their cumbersome, hard-copy process for lodging sickness and injury benefits. Rather than simply digitize their current framework, we fully overhauled their system – allowing for streamlined workflows that drastically cut down filing times and getting workers the support they needed. The new system, ECOMP, was so successful it has since been deployed to other government departments.

A fast, simplified way to share sensitive information and

improve worker’s lives.

THE ASK

To digitize the Department of Labor’s process for filing sickness and injury benefits.

THE DISCOVERY

The DOL’s filing process was very intricate with certain sensitive medical records and psych assessments needing to be lodged in person to ensure security. Rather than just use online forms for some claims, we needed to fully overhaul the workflows and build security protocols robust enough to allow for primarily digital lodgment.

Improving systems improves people’s lives.

THE RESULT

A fully-integrated portal called ECOMP allowed workers and supervisors to securely upload, lodge, and verify documents across agencies. This new system allowed workers to file documents from home (or hospital) and exponentially scaled the system, which kept pace during the global pandemic. Timely lodgments went from 70.5% with the old system to an almost perfect 99.2% with ECOMP.
